Jijona is famous for a type of nougat made from honey sugar and egg whites with toasted Almonds - traditional Christmas sweets in Spain. It is said that the Moors invented Turron over 500 years ago. Today Jijona is now responsible for 70 per cent of the worlds production.
Jijona Christmas Fair is one of the most popular events in the Autonomous Community of Valencia. It coincides with the Constitution holidays, bringing together more than 100 companies and associations that open up the possibility to prepare Christmas celebrations with products from Xixona. It is possible to choose from a wide range of nougat and sweets from local producers. This is a two hundred year old tradition. The manufacturers themselves directly sell their nougat and sweets. It also offers a great variety of products, workshops for children and the possibility to contemplate the human-size nativity scene located at the entrance of the village in a very beautiful setting.
**There a Xmas train available from the car park that leaves every 30 minutes. This is optional as we cannot book in advance or guarantee seats.**
