From 19th - 24th June the city of Alicante is in "fiesta"
The offering of flowers to the Virgen del Remedio is one of the most massive acts of all those celebrated during the central days of the festivities. It is considered one of the oldest in Spain, since it has been celebrated since 1941.
The foguerers & barraquers parade through the city on June 22 to pay tribute to the patron saint of the city, the Virgen del Remedio, which is located in the St. Nicholas Cathedral.
About 10,000 people participate in this act carrying bouquets of flowers that will form a representative floral mosaic that varies over the years. In addition, there are many religious motifs that are deposited in the Abad Penalva square at the gates of the Co-Cathedral. Beautiful ladies in traditional costume parade through the streets with their offerings, accompanied by bands playing music accompanied by traditional dancers.
You can also see the final touches being made to the "Fogueras" before they are burnt on 24th June.
